This Ferenczy Noémi Award laureate textile artist is interested in designing and creating both autonomous wall textiles and unique clothing accessories, stoles and shawls. She has a penchant for creating collages, whereby she slashes, damages and tears the fabric before rearranging it into new compositions. She likes working with differently-structured exciting fabrics, with transparent iridescent, metallic-looking fabrics. In recent years she has turned her attention towards designing and making design objects; she only embarks upon bigger autonomous jobs if she is inspired by the location, her companions or some other exciting thing.
What technique and inspiration did you use to create your textile on display in the 5th TEXHIBITION exhibition? Where was it made?
This is an absolutely experimental creation; when I started working on it I couldn’t see where it would lead or what it might turn into. I was interested in the surface features of metal rasters, metal mesh, and simple plain-woven fabrics. I was into using several materials with different characteristics and attributes. I worked with spot-welded steel mesh, thickly-woven aluminium mesh, silk metal organza and different-quality metal wires. My design goal was a minimalist geometric arrangement with the fine interplay of the materials creating an exciting graphic surface. I used my own technique, I used these materials here and now for the first time.
Why do you think the TEXHIBITION project is important?
I believe this is the most important annual muster for those that work with large reproducible woven or printed textiles as well as unique autonomous creations.
