ESZTER SÖPTEI

She primarily designs interior textiles. Her visual world is defined by the exciting use of colour and patterns inspired by geometric and mathematical principles. Her works are often characterised by a kind of optical playfulness based on the relation between planes and space. Her piece goods can be used in many ways. They can become a cushion or a curtain, but they hold their own as decorative wall cladding or as daring furniture upholstery, even as material for a unique bag. Her current favourite is a monochrome black fabric, its pattern created by the different qualities, surfaces and the interlacing of the cotton and polyester fibres. She is also interested in designing and creating spatial textiles that improve acoustics and have a peculiar effect as they depart from the two dimensions.

What technique and inspiration did you use to create your textile on display in the 5th TEXHIBITION exhibition? Where was it made?

I have exhibited peculiarly spatial jacquard weave textiles, made by Meritum Ltd.

Why do you think the TEXHIBITION project is important?

I find the project’s community-building effect outstanding. Naturally, it also has a significant role in helping designers and manufacturers find each other, but I think it is brilliant that the way the project’s communicated and the opportunities for exposure contribute to the career of all participating designers.
